I also got to meet her, had my first sexual experience at that party with a real life Dominant, she signed my copy and I won a free flogger so I definitely can't complain at all about what else I ultimately got with this book. I just couldn't stomach more than one chapter of that. Thank you for sharing your experience with me, Jenny!!
Totally jealous of Dom's wife now, and your cuddles of comfort with him in the dressing room. Hope you write another one! Dec 27, Jadine rated it it was amazing. I did not promise a review for the book.
I really liked this book. I thought it was going to be more of her life in at the Dungeon itself but a lot of the rest of her life was in there too. Not a bad thing, I'm enjoying getting to know Jenny and Sarah through their podcast. I went through a myriad of emotions while reading this book: fascination, curiosit Full disclosure: I received this book from the author after reviewing her podcast with Sarah Hawley, The Wicked Wallflowers Club.
I went through a myriad of emotions while reading this book: fascination, curiosity, disgust, happiness, sadness, sympathy. My husband laughed at me while I was reading with my hand over my open mouth during the live demonstration at the convention. I am open minded and try not to judge others, everyone has their thing but I think my mind was opened up a bit more. I learned about some things I had never heard of urethral sounds chapter, wow, I had no idea Compared to the experiences in this book I feel very vanilla, but that is ok, as I said earlier, everyone has their thing.
I was very surprised at how many men enjoy cock and ball torture, in general I think everyone thinks how sensitive men are down there but man can they take a beating, literally kicked and punched, wow! I was so scared during the chapter that I thought Jenny was going to be raped and then was dismissed by Viv at the reception desk. I have never tried recreational drugs so I was particularly worried during any drug use and was relieved when nothing too horrible happened during that time.
I do have to wonder why Jenny decided to work at the Dungeon instead of going there as a client first.

It just seems like such an extreme to go from not knowing anything about the world to committing to a job there. I'm sure that men are the most frequent patrons of the establishment but women do go, at least with a partner. I'm curious if women attend by themselves? It didn't seem that Jenny had any female clients accept the couple at the end of the book. I'm glad that in the end Jenny was able to find someone who was perfect for her, giving her her happily ever after with her own version of prince charming.
Whatever that means for her. Dec 31, Kat C rated it liked it. Nordbak weaves together the events of her "vanilla" life with anecdotes about her sessions with clients as she becomes Mistress Scarlett. I found the peek into the BDSM scene fascinating and enjoyed getting to know the irreverent found family Nordbak creates for herself. This book is pretty hardcore though, the content is not for the faint of heart--some of the fetishes her clients have are a lot. Like there is a guy who liked to be forced to do disgusting things and she recount Nordbak weaves together the events of her "vanilla" life with anecdotes about her sessions with clients as she becomes Mistress Scarlett.
Like there is a guy who liked to be forced to do disgusting things and she recounts all the gross things she and the others would think of for him to do. While I liked this memoir the perspective kept nagging at me. While Nordbak is definitely part of the scene and has her own personal struggles it's not clear to me why she is the one who gets to publish a book about this scene.
Nordbak is only a dominatrix for two years and leaves because she loses the spark and soon after marries a man who is not in the scene. I feel like someone who was in the scene longer or more experienced could have written a more interesting book. Many of the other characters we meet are more entrenched in the scene and I think they would have added more point-of-views on the BDSM lifestyle. I wish it had been more like Orange Is The New Black which is both about Piper's story but also acknowledges others stories.
I did this on audiobook and Nordbak is a good narrator, she had a theater background so there is a performative quality to her narration. I do side-eye the fact that despite there being Scottish, British and German people in this book the only accent she does is an Asian one.
She does it once to mimic a client and again as a joke and it just came off as really distasteful. Guide Jennies New Adventure Looking for Letters
This book was one of those times and I am so glad I did. If you are looking for some kind of f First and foremost, I would like to thank St. This is so MUCH better. Jenny sums up her year with chapters titled after clients that impact or teach her something, while the tales are erotic there is an underlying strength and courage that makes this story even more relateable and enjoyable. I wont give too much away but I will say that if you pass this one up you will be disappointed. I believe every woman should go on an eye-opening journey of their own, but for now go on this 5 star Journey with Ms Nordbak, absorb it enjoy it and share it I have already shared it with every uptight female in my life and trust me they need it I may even buy a paperback copy for my sister just to watch her blush!

You walk away learning something and living someone else's actual life for the duration of the book, and I love that. This one had me unable to put it down—and I don't say that often. I'm kinda picky and quick to DNF something, simply because I don't have the time or patience to try and push through something I'm not enjoying. I've got shit to do lol I didn't know much about the BDSM lifestyle prior to reading I'm starting to realize that my favorite kind of reads are autobiographies.
I've got shit to do lol I didn't know much about the BDSM lifestyle prior to reading this book, other than just a surfacey understanding of what it was about. I'm here to tell you that 50 Shades is NOT the book to read if you're looking for a deeper understanding of this lifestyle. It was fascinating to learn about this and get to know the author and the people she met and worked with through her storytelling. I have to be totally honest and admit that reading this dispelled a lot of preconceived notions I had about the industry.
It truly was educational and highly enjoyable. If you're worried about the steam level, it's R, not X rated, which I think is a testimonial to the author's ability to make this accessible to the average reader, despite the topics covered. X rated doesn't bother me, but it might scare off some who otherwise wouldn't find this a comfortable read. If you opt for the Audiobook, which I did, the author narrates it herself and does a great job. I love when authors do that on their autobiographies. It makes you feel even closer to the story to hear it in their own voice.
Very well done and I highly recommend. Jun 28, Ami rated it really liked it Shelves: arc. I tend to avidly avoid romance novels, but as this is a memoir I, like every other person who reads this book, was curious about her experience and I will not lie, the mindset it takes to be a Domme. If you read this you won't find it to be a "how to", you won't find many tips and tricks laid out, you're going to get the truth. There are also hilarious moments, a few times I couldn't stop laughing and I won't be able to think about the term "prep work" without a chuckle.
What comes out of Jenny's pain, and the magnificent person Mistress Scarlett is will break your heart a little, but the one truly beautiful thing here is that while this tale is sexy and true and tabboo, everything happened. This all really happened and she holds nothing back. When you read this, because most of you will read this, be ready for the honesty. I really enjoyed the stories contained within this book. It was a great exploration of a woman finding herself, exploring herself and learning about herself. Many people might dismiss this book as a bunch of sex stories but it's not about that. It's about people finding other people to express their inner most desires and being vulnerable to share with another human being to find some sort of understanding and connection. The only issue I had with the book is that the ending felt rushed. The set I really enjoyed the stories contained within this book. The setting for the book is a defined period of time in the author's life as she is no longer a dominatrix.
The story of how she made it out the other side I would have loved to have had more story with that. An enjoyable read all around. The chapters are small snippets and it's easy to read. Mar 20, Tracyreads rated it it was amazing. I loved this book! The author takes us on an unconventional journey that begins with the all too familiar self doubt that plagues many young women. Through new experiences and new people, she learns to trust herself and value herself, which ultimately allows her to fully give and accep I loved this book!

Jenny Nordbak, aka "Mistress Scarlett" takes us along for a ride as she learns all about the underworld and herself while serving as a sub, then switch and finally a dom in the BDSM scene. While there are a lot of juicy details about her many sessions with clients, there is a deeper theme in the book about a woman learning who she is, what she wants while learning self-acceptance and how to set boundaries.
